In this article: understand what a keyword cloud is and how it will help you target the companies you are looking for more accurately. Tips included!
What is the Mixdata keyword cloud?
Thanks to semantic analysis (i.e. analysis of the content and the words) of companies’ websites, Mixdata is able to determine which keywords are the most representative of a company’s website and therefore, by extension, of its activity.
This representative set of keywords is called the “keyword cloud“. The keywords in this cloud are ranked by their degree of relevance. By going to the company records, you can view the keyword cloud specific to each website.
For example, the 20 main keywords of the chronopost.fr website are as follows:

In practical terms, what is it for?
Targeting the companies you are looking for more accurately in keyword searches!
When you run a keyword search, the search engine returns, by default, all the companies that feature that word on their website.
Example: let’s say you are looking for companies in the parcel delivery sector. If you type the word “parcel” into the search engine, you will get more than 70,000 companies, including the toy retailer Toys R Us, because the word “parcel” appears on its website.
How do you target more precisely in line with your original target of parcel carriers? Head to the advanced search.
In the “advanced search” tab, you can enter the keyword “parcel” in the search bar and tick the option “Search only within the keyword cloud”. That way, you will only get the companies for which the word “parcel” is among the most relevant keywords of the website, and you will eliminate a number of companies that have nothing to do with the parcel business. Naturally, the resulting list will be more targeted and will narrow down around the sector you are looking for (in our example, the number of companies is divided by 5!).
But how do you refine further?
If you know you are looking for companies like Chronopost, check its keyword list to understand the way this company communicates through its website, and identify the keywords linked to its activity. You can then select 2 other words among the top 10 words of the Chronopost keyword cloud (see the keyword cloud above) and ask Mixdata to return all the companies that have in their keyword cloud: “parcel” AND “delivery”, or “parcel” AND “express transport”. You then get a smaller list, and above all one more concentrated in companies that are relevant to you.
You can then run another search combining other keywords from the Chronopost keyword cloud, in order to complete the results obtained with companies that communicate slightly differently but have the same core business (e.g. the keywords “delivery” and “logistics”).
Would you like to see other keyword clouds of companies similar to Chronopost in order to identify more relevant keywords? Take a look at the companies with keyword clouds similar to Chronopost’s in the “Similar Sites” section of the Chronopost company record!
You can also combine the keyword search with other advanced search criteria such as turnover, company headcount or the functions being recruited.
Don’t forget that you can exclude keywords to remove from the list the types of company that would not be in your target. For example, excluding the keywords “temping” and “temp” lets you eliminate the temping agencies that might otherwise be caught by the search.
